You might have heard of “Baby Shark,” a children’s song about a family of sharks. Though a children’s song, the song has become a global hit since last year! If you haven’t heard it yet, take a listen down below.

Sorry… That might be stuck in your head all day now. Well it will be for me… Doo doo do doo do doo!

It’s infectious and I’ve heard it everywhere! In restaurants (there are remixes…), on the streets, from almost every parent’s phone! The song is a huge hit, the first to top the kid’s album charts and place No.32 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in January 2019! The song comes with a simple dance, something even a toddler and adult can follow along to. It’s also visually enticing as well as ridiculously catchy.

It’s also a YouTube hit! First uploaded on June 17, 2016, the video currently has nearly 3.8 billion views, making it one of the top 25 most-viewed videos in YouTube history. And in 2018, the #BabySharkChallenge became a huge meme across TikTok, with a popular remixed version of the song going viral. This meant that “Baby Shark” gained even more mainstream attention, it wasn’t just a children’s song anymore. In September 2018, James Corden featured it on “The Late Late Show” in a hilarious but surprisingly good rendition with Sophie Turner and Josh Groban.

The the song even made a cameo appearance in YouTube’s annual year-end Rewind video! But what many don’t know is that “Baby Shark” is originally Korean!

The song was produced by SmartStudy, a Seoul-based company that has produced thousands of children’s videos under South Korean educational brand Pinkfong. It has now been adapted into more than 100 versions in 11 languages.
